Kanpur: IIT will make doctors medical experts, hope to have a medical college ready by next year
In the first phase in the medical college being prepared at Kanpur IIT, doctors will be made medical experts so that the shortage of super specialist doctors in the country can be overcome. MBBS studies will start from its next session.
IIT will be the first institute in the country where medical along with technical education will be done. A super specialty hospital will also be built in the medical college being built on 22 acres. Along with studies, patients will also be treated here. In the first phase, the institute will introduce postgraduate courses such as Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery, Urology and Nephrology, Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology, Neurology and Neurosurgery and Oncology.
New research will be done in the medical field with technical support. Dr. S Ganesh, Deputy Director of the institute said that the introduction of Medical Division will give additional impetus to the Department of Biomedical Engineering operating in IITs. He said that the medical college is expected to start from next year.
The alumni have proposed to give Rs 20 crore Gurudakshina to the institute for medical college and other needs. The hospital being built in the institute with the support of alumni will be made more hi-tech.
